I Volunteer

I am a volunteer foster mom to animals! I love fostering and helping out dogs, cats and now a rabbit who would otherwise be in a shelter or put down do to lack of space. It is incredibly rewarding to be part of these animals lives and they clearly know that you are there to help them. It also teaches them that however hard their lives were before, it can get better and that not all people will hurt them. It great for my kids too because they learn valuable lesson on empathy and selflessness, responsibility and just plain exposure to kind loving animals.

ECO-Action of Central Florida

Every possible weekend ECO-Action volunteers launch small canoes from Central Florida waterways to remove trash that is harmful and often fatal for native wildlife. The organization works with several other Central Florida volunteer and non-profit organizations such as the Audubon Society’s Birds of Prey, Keep Orlando Beautiful, Keep Winter Park Beautiful, Keep Seminole County Beautiful, and St Johns Riverkeeper. To get a better idea what ECO-Action volunteers do, watch our 10-minute video called "Take ECO-Action!" at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyEbhWk0lhQ. As the global recession continues to ripple through the local economy, ECO-Action has been hit hard and has lost major funding from grants and endowments. The organization is planning to restore the eleven-canoe trailer to improve the security and management of the equipment. Additionally, the computer hardware used for operations and management are well beyond their life span and need to be replaced with new equipment. Can you chip in a few dollars or contribute a new IBM-compatible personal computer? Go to ECO-Action for membership and donation details, or contact Beth Hollenbeck at 407-695-5050 or beth@eco-action.net. You can also join us for a cleanup in a waterway near you. Contact Beth to reserve a canoe for an upcoming weekend. For the critters!

Orlando Charities

I recently started writing for the Orlando Charity Examiner ( http://www.examiner.com/x-25075-Orlando-Charity-Examiner ) The project serves as: 1. a central location where those intersted in donating to a charity or who are seeking volunteer opportunities can read about local efforts 2. a resource for those needing help or assistance While it is difficult to cover all the opportunities, I do what I can as time allows. I hope it serves some purpose and helps generate interest and increases awareness of the many worthy organizations in the Central Florida area. If you are in Orlando and have a story to share, please let me know. I will submit certain articles to iparticipate. bruceglarson@yahoo.com
